2026 NFL Power Rankings: Week 3
Week 3 created meaningful separation at the top of the NFL. San Francisco, Buffalo, Kansas City, Minnesota and Las Vegas all reached 3-0, while Baltimore scored an important road win over Dallas and Atlanta delivered perhaps the week’s biggest surprise by crushing Green Bay 35-14. Jacksonville overwhelmed New England 35-6, Chicago stunned Philadelphia 27-7 on Monday night, and Denver strengthened its case with a prime-time win over the Rams.
1. San Francisco 49ers
Record: 3-0
San Francisco survived Arizona 36-30 to complete a perfect September, scoring 36 despite being pushed throughout. Brock Purdy’s exceptional start — nine touchdown passes against one interception through three games — gives the 49ers elite quarterback production alongside an already formidable roster. That combination makes San Francisco the strongest team in our first ranking.
2. Buffalo Bills
Record: 3-0
Buffalo strengthened its résumé with a 24-16 victory over the Chargers, reaching 3-0 without requiring Josh Allen to manufacture everything himself. That balance is important for a team already possessing one of football’s highest quarterback ceilings. San Francisco’s offensive start gives the 49ers the narrow advantage, but Buffalo is right behind them.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
Record: 3-0
Kansas City went to Miami and won 24-10, holding the Dolphins to 10 points and preventing the game from becoming a shootout. Patrick Mahomes remains Kansas City’s greatest advantage, but reputation isn’t carrying this ranking: the Chiefs are undefeated and just produced a convincing two-touchdown road victory. They remain firmly among the NFL’s strongest teams.
4. Minnesota Vikings
Record: 3-0
Minnesota’s 23-16 win at Tampa Bay moved the Vikings to 3-0 after going all-in on Kyler Murray and shipping former first-rounder J.J. McCarthy to the Giants. Murray hasn’t needed to carry them, with Brian Flores’ defense driving the unbeaten start. The Vikings’ bet on Murray is working in the standings, even if the offense still has another level to reach.
5. Las Vegas Raiders
Record: 3-0
Kirk Cousins somehow continues to deliver, throwing nine touchdowns through three games as Las Vegas followed its surprising start with a 35-27 win at New Orleans. The 38-year-old’s play has helped transform a three-win team into an early-season revelation. More importantly, 3-0 gives the Raiders no reason to rush No. 1 overall pick Fernando Mendoza onto the field.
6. Baltimore Ravens
Record: 2-1
Baltimore’s 34-31 victory at Dallas was one of Week 3’s most valuable results, with a road win over the Cowboys carrying substantial weight. Lamar Jackson gives the Ravens an offensive ceiling few teams can replicate, and Baltimore’s overall talent remains among the league’s best. Sunday’s win puts the Ravens immediately behind the five undefeated leaders.
7. Detroit Lions
Record: 2-1
Detroit’s 31-24 victory over the Jets reinforced the Lions’ offensive credibility and their ability to win competitive games. Defensive consistency remains the primary obstacle separating Detroit from the NFL’s highest tier, but the offense gives the Lions significant weekly upside. A 2-1 record and strong underlying roster keep Detroit comfortably inside the top 10.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers
Record: 2-1
Pittsburgh survived Cincinnati 30-27 in an AFC North game that carries additional weight because of the division’s competitiveness. The Steelers generated enough offense to complement their defensive identity and now own the freshest head-to-head result among several closely matched AFC North teams. With every team in the division at 2-1, Pittsburgh slots just behind Baltimore.
9. Seattle Seahawks
Record: 2-1
Seattle’s 33-31 loss at Washington illustrates why a close defeat doesn’t necessarily erase two strong opening weeks. Allowing 33 points exposed defensive vulnerabilities, however, and Seattle cannot continually depend on its offense to win shootouts. The broader profile remains strong enough to preserve a top-10 position despite the first loss.
10. Denver Broncos
Record: 2-1
Denver delivered an important prime-time result by beating the Rams 30-26, providing evidence that its early promise can translate against a talented opponent. Scoring 30 while navigating a close fourth quarter gives the Broncos multiple paths to victory. The AFC West is formidable, but Denver has established itself as much more than an afterthought.
11. Chicago Bears
Record: 2-1
Chicago’s 27-7 demolition of Philadelphia becomes considerably more impressive considering Caleb Williams was out with a hamstring injury. Third-string quarterback Case Keenum stepped in and threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score against the previously unbeaten Eagles. Beating a contender by 20 with Keenum under center gives Chicago one of Week 3’s biggest résumé boosters.
12. Philadelphia Eagles
Record: 2-1
Philadelphia takes a significant hit after Monday’s 27-7 loss in Chicago, with an offense expected to be a major strength producing only seven points. One terrible performance shouldn’t erase the Eagles’ first two victories or their substantial roster talent. It does, however, temporarily remove Philadelphia from the league’s upper tier until the Eagles demonstrate Monday was an aberration.
13. Jacksonville Jaguars
Record: 2-1
Jacksonville delivered one of Week 3’s most convincing performances, crushing New England 35-6 for a 29-point victory. The Jaguars now pair a winning record with a genuine blowout, giving their early résumé considerably more substance. Stronger opponents will reveal Jacksonville’s ultimate ceiling, but the Jaguars leave Week 3 looking increasingly dangerous.
14. Cleveland Browns
Record: 2-1
Deshaun Watson delivered when Cleveland needed him most, returning after briefly leaving injured to throw the winning touchdown in a 21-18 comeback over Carolina. His overall numbers — 144 yards and two touchdowns — were modest, but the late drive pushed Cleveland to 2-1. The defense remains the Browns’ foundation, while Watson’s consistency will determine how high they can climb.
15. Washington Commanders
Record: 1-2
Washington’s first win was anything but routine: without injured starter Jayden Daniels, backup Marcus Mariota led a 33-31 upset of defending Super Bowl champion Seattle. Mariota threw three touchdowns without an interception as the shorthanded Commanders handed the Seahawks their first loss. Beating the reigning champions with a backup quarterback materially changes Washington’s outlook despite the 1-2 record.
16. Los Angeles Rams
Record: 1-2
The Rams fell 30-26 at Denver, but a four-point road defeat against a 2-1 Broncos team isn’t evidence that Los Angeles belongs near the bottom. Scoring 26 again demonstrated the Rams’ offensive danger, while their inability to finish the game exposed the issue holding them back. Competitive performances eventually must become victories for Los Angeles to climb.
17. Atlanta Falcons
Record: 1-2
Atlanta produced one of Week 3’s biggest surprises by walking into Green Bay and demolishing the Packers 35-14. The first two losses prevent one result from launching the Falcons toward the top 10, but a 21-point road victory is legitimate evidence of considerable upside. Few teams improved their trajectory more dramatically this week.
18. Cincinnati Bengals
Record: 2-1
Cincinnati lost 30-27 at Pittsburgh, but a three-point road defeat inside the AFC North doesn’t warrant a dramatic fall. The Bengals remain 2-1, although Pittsburgh now owns the fresh head-to-head result while Baltimore strengthened its résumé by winning at Dallas. Cincinnati therefore slides behind both while remaining firmly within the league’s competitive middle.
19. New York Giants
Record: 2-1
The Giants improved to 2-1 by beating Tennessee 12-7, but scoring 12 against an 0-3 opponent doesn’t provide overwhelming evidence of strength. New York deserves credit for winning two of its first three and finding ways to survive low-scoring games. The offense needs substantially more production before the Giants can be considered one of the NFC’s stronger teams.
20. Indianapolis Colts
Record: 1-2
Indianapolis finally entered the win column with a 19-17 victory over Houston, stopping an early slide and creating something to build upon. A two-point home win over an 0-3 opponent doesn’t erase the Colts’ first two losses or answer larger questions about their ceiling. For now, Indianapolis belongs near the middle-to-lower portion of the rankings.
21. Dallas Cowboys
Record: 1-2
Dallas’ 34-31 home loss to Baltimore leaves the Cowboys at 1-2, but staying within three points of the sixth-ranked Ravens prevents a steeper decline. The roster possesses substantially more talent than the record suggests, and Dallas remains capable of beating teams ranked considerably higher. At some point, however, competitive losses have to become victories.
22. Arizona Cardinals
Record: 1-2
Arizona gave No. 1 San Francisco everything it could handle in a 36-30 road loss, making the Cardinals’ performance considerably more encouraging than their record suggests. Allowing 36 highlights defensive problems, but trading scores with the 49ers demonstrated legitimate offensive capability. Arizona currently looks more like a competitive middle-tier team than a bottom-five one.
23. New York Jets
Record: 1-2
The Jets lost 31-24 at Detroit but remained competitive against a Lions team sitting comfortably inside the top 10. New York scored 24 points but couldn’t generate enough defensive stops to steal a difficult road victory. The Jets haven’t demonstrated the consistency necessary to reach the upper half, although this loss provides little reason for a major downgrade.
24. Green Bay Packers
Record: 1-2
Green Bay suffered one of Week 3’s ugliest defeats, losing 35-14 at home to an Atlanta team that entered the night 0-2. The combination of opponent, location and 21-point margin makes the result particularly damaging and exposes concerns on both sides of the ball. Few teams hurt their standing more this week than the Packers.
25. Los Angeles Chargers
Record: 0-3
The Chargers remain the highest-ranked winless team after losing 24-16 at undefeated Buffalo, a result that hardly indicates they belong at the NFL’s absolute bottom. Their underlying talent and the quality of Sunday’s opponent provide context for the latest defeat. But three explainable losses still equal 0-3, and the Chargers’ margin for error is rapidly disappearing.
26. New Orleans Saints
Record: 1-2
New Orleans scored 27 points Sunday but still lost 35-27 at home to undefeated Las Vegas, highlighting the defensive issues holding the Saints back. Losing to a 3-0 opponent isn’t disastrous in isolation, and the offensive production provides some encouragement. The broader 1-2 résumé simply lacks a strong enough result to justify a higher position.
27. Carolina Panthers
Record: 1-2
Carolina’s 21-18 loss at Cleveland remained competitive throughout, but the Panthers couldn’t produce the decisive sequence needed to steal a road victory. Their 1-2 record reasonably reflects their current standing: capable of making opponents work but not consistent enough to trust. Keeping Cleveland within three prevents a major drop, though close losses provide limited value.
28. New England Patriots
Record: 1-2
The Super Bowl already feels like a long time ago for New England after the Patriots were overwhelmed 35-6 at Jacksonville in one of Week 3’s ugliest results. A 29-point loss is difficult to contextualize away, particularly against an opponent that entered Sunday 1-1. New England now needs to prove this performance was an aberration rather than a sign of a post-Super Bowl collapse.
29. Miami Dolphins
Record: 0-3
Miami’s slide continued with a 24-10 home loss to Kansas City, leaving the Dolphins winless after three games. Losing to the undefeated Chiefs isn’t inherently alarming, but producing only 10 points was especially disappointing for a team whose offensive potential should be its greatest strength. The gap between Miami’s talent and September production has become substantial.
30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Record: 0-3
Tampa Bay remained winless after a 23-16 home loss to Minnesota, although keeping the game within one possession against the fourth-ranked Vikings provides some context. The Buccaneers have been competitive enough to suggest victories will eventually come. Until one actually does, there isn’t enough evidence to rank Tampa Bay above teams already demonstrating an ability to finish games.
31. Tennessee Titans
Record: 0-3
Tennessee’s 12-7 loss to the Giants was troubling primarily because holding an NFL opponent to 12 points should create a clear path to victory. The Titans’ defense can keep games competitive, but an offense that managed seven points has become the overriding concern. Combined with an 0-3 record, that imbalance leaves Tennessee near the bottom.
32. Houston Texans
Record: 0-3
Houston takes the final spot after a 19-17 loss at Indianapolis, although the two-point margin suggests little separation between the Texans and several teams immediately above them. The larger problem is an 0-3 résumé without a performance strong enough to change Houston’s trajectory. Competitive losses are preferable to blowouts, but eventually one needs to become a victory.
